Whistleblower Protections (INT)

Course Description:

The objective of this training session is to help you understand your rights under whistleblower protection laws. By the end of this session, you will understand your right to a safe and healthy workplace, your specific rights as a motor carrier employee, what protected activity is and what it includes, what retaliation is, when and how to file a complaint about unsafe working conditions or motor carrier safety violations, when and how to file a retaliation complaint, your rights and protections as a whistleblower, how whistleblower complaints are investigated, and the outcome you can expect after filing a retaliation complaint.

Why “Whistleblower Protections (INT)” Matters:

All employees have the right to a safe and healthy workplace. According to OSHA, a safe and healthy workplace is one where you are not exposed to serious hazards that are likely to cause death, serious injury, or serious illness.

You also have other protected workplace safety rights. For example:

  • Raising a safety or health concern with your employer;
  • Refusing work you believe to be unsafe;
  • Participating in an OSHA inspection;
  •  Reporting a work-related injury or illness; and
  • Reporting a safety or health concern to OSHA.

All of these actions are known as “protected activities,” meaning that you are protected from negative actions your employer might take against you for doing them.
