Course Description:
There is an average of 150 deaths and thousands of injuries inside permit-required confined spaces every year. In many cases, there was no trained attendant at the entrance of the space to respond appropriately in an emergency. This safety training module is for authorized attendants at permit-required confined spaces in general industry workplaces. An attendant is stationed outside a permit space to monitor entrants and conditions inside, prevent unauthorized entry, and summon rescue services when needed. |

- Identify the hazards of confined space entry, including the signs, symptoms, behavioral effects, and consequences of hazard exposure for entrants
- Recall the methods to communicate effectively with entrants during entry operations while remaining outside the confined space
- Describe the means to keep track of multiple entrants while remaining outside the confined space, and eliminate distractions or activities that interfere with your work as the attendant and avoid distractions
- Recognize and monitor dangerous conditions that require an order for entrants to evacuate the space
- Recall the actions to take when unauthorized persons attempt to enter the confined space
- Describe procedures for nonentry rescue and when and how to initiate entry rescue, and to summon rescue and emergency services and summon rescue services
