Why “Earthquake Preparedness” Matters:

Compared to some other natural disasters, serious earthquakes are relatively rare; however, you should be prepared, just in case. Earthquakes are a powerful natural force that can have a major impact on our lives. For example, earthquakes can damage businesses as well as affect jobs, services, and the incomes of employees. They can cause fires, explosions, chemical releases, release of radiation, and other catastrophic events. Earthquakes can cause injuries and deaths. Earthquakes can damage roads and bridges, making them impassable. Quakes can also affect utilities, causing power outages, disruptions of gas lines, and impacting water and sewer services as well.

Key Points:

  • Earthquakes can cause injuries, death, and extensive damage.
  • You need to recognize hazards and identify measures to ensure safety.
  • Being prepared for earthquakes will help you respond effectively and improve your chances of survival.
  • Knowing what to do during and after a quake can help prevent injuries and speed recovery.
