Cyber Security for Remote Workers
Course Description:
Corporations and private citizens rely on the Internet to perform daily work activities with web-based applications. You can perform tasks like making a bank transaction without ever leaving your home. Our reliance on technology and the change in the way we do business has opened the doors for a new wave of criminal activity. These criminals can commit crimes without being in the same city or even in the same country. They’re committed in a cyber world and there are no boundaries. This change in criminal activity, called cybercrime, has created the need for the discipline called “cyber security”, and it affects every one of us. The main objective of this course is to help you recognize the importance of cyber security, prevent a cyber attack, and protect your company and personal data.
Why “Cyber Security for Remote Workers” Matters:
The more that technology is implemented to meet business needs, the greater the organization’s exposure to cyber threats. There are known and specific threats to your computers, networks, and Internet-connected devices. This course explains the basic measures every remote employee can take to protect their data and hardware.
Key Points:
- The four primary types of cyber threats are malware, viruses, denials of service (DoS), and advanced persistent threats (APT).
- Malicious URLs, e-mails, and webpages trick victims by trying to appear legitimate.
- Strong passwords are a mix of upper- and lowercase letters, have at least one number and special character, and are at least 10 characters in length.
- Utilize secured encryption connections, firewalls, and strong passwords on cable modems, Wi-Fi connections, and routers.
- Regularly run up-to-date anti-virus and malware remover software.
- Secure mobile devices by using passcodes, avoiding open Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connections, and setting up factory resets.
