Combustible Dust Safety
Course Description:
Combustible dust is made up of fine particles that present a fire or explosion hazard when suspended in air under certain conditions. A dust explosion can cause serious injuries, fatalities, and destruction of buildings. Combustible dust hazards exist in a variety of industries including agriculture, chemical, food, grain, wood and lumber, paper, pulp and rubber, furniture and textiles, pesticides, pharmaceuticals, manufacturing and metals processing, and recycling operations.
This course is for employees who work in these industries and other work environments prone to dust and will help to identify combustible dust hazards and ways to prevent injury and illness from fires, flash fires, deflagration, and explosions.
Why “Combustible Dust Safety” Matters:
At the completion of this course, the participant will be able to:
• Recognize the potential for combustible dust in the workplace
• Recall the elements needed for a combustible dust explosion
• Recognize the harmful events and effects of combustible dust
• Use administrative and engineering controls to reduce and control combustible dust generation and accumulation
• Recall the elements of a combustible dust management plan
• Respond appropriately to emergencies
